PRESENTOR

PowerPoint alternatives: which one fits you?

PowerPoint is bad at nothing and really good at nothing. Whether you need something else depends on what your presentation has to do: move, stay on brand, be shared, or simply be finished.

First: what PowerPoint is good at

Everyone has it, everyone knows it, it works without internet and the file format opens everywhere. For an internal update you send round by email there is little wrong with it. You do not have to switch because it is "old".

You do have a reason to switch when your presentation has to move, when your team keeps drifting off brand, when you want to know whether a client looked at your proposal, or when you want to work on one version together without "final_v3_final.pptx".

The alternatives, in short

  • Keynote (Apple): the best transitions of the classic tools, but only on Mac and iPad, and you still build animations per element.
  • Google Slides: editing together in the browser, free, little motion and a brand that fades fast.
  • Canva: strong templates and image editing for marketing, priced per person; presentations are one of many things.
  • Pitch: a tight team tool with analytics from the Team plan, paid per person.
  • Gamma: AI makes a first version from text, in card form; strong to start fast, weaker to steer precisely.
  • Presentor: motion without effort, brand locked per brand, analytics and CRM connection. Paid per brand or company, viewers always free.

Compared on what matters

Motion. Only Keynote and Presentor really invest here. In Keynote you build it yourself; in Presentor it is in the slide type and the rhythm of your brand.

Brand. Canva and Pitch have brand kits (colours and fonts at hand). Presentor goes a step further: editors cannot leave it, and the style comes from your website or your pptx.

Sharing and knowing what happens. Pitch, Gamma and Presentor show analytics (on their paid plan). Presentor also sends a notification when someone opens, makes a link per recipient and puts the viewing time as a note in Teamleader, HubSpot, Pipedrive or Agreed.

Price. Most tools charge per person; a team of three quickly pays double. Presentor charges per brand or company with three editors included; see pricing for the amounts and the comparison.

Your existing files. You do not have to start over: Presentor imports a .pptx with images, tables and notes (Premium) and exports back to PowerPoint, pdf or video.

Which one when?

  • Internal update, now and then: PowerPoint or Google Slides.
  • Marketing team with lots of imagery and social: Canva.
  • A quick first version from text: Gamma, or the AI in Presentor (Premium).
  • Sales and proposals, where you want to know who watches: Pitch or Presentor.
  • Brand team that wants everything to move and stay on brand: Presentor.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my PowerPoint files?

Yes. Import a .pptx into Presentor: text, images, tables, charts, notes and sections come along, every slide gets a fitting slide type and is in your brand straight away. That is part of Premium. You can try Basic for free with new presentations.

Can I go back to PowerPoint?

Yes. Presentor exports to PowerPoint (with text boxes), to pdf and to video or GIF (Premium). Your presentations remain yours.

Does Presentor work offline?

No, Presentor works in the browser and needs internet. For a trade show or a screen without controls there is a booth mode that runs a playlist.

Is there a free version?
